A Winning Week!

Time is flying by, it seems....and so did Josh's little wooden car that he made for his first Cub Scout Pinewood Derby race! It started out as a humpbacked whale design, but he called a halt to the rough cuts early and turned it into a pretty decent looking little race car!

Not only did it turn out to be a bit stylish, it also turned out to be pretty quick! His first heat (1 run on each of 4 tracks) brought him in 3rd each time. By the 2nd heat however, it was warmed up and started winning! When they tallied up the final results, he came in 1st in the Tiger Cub category, and took 2nd place for the whole pack! Needless to say, we were very pleasantly surprised. Now he's saving his car for the district derby race, to take place in April

I plan on taking a good photo of him and his car, which I'll post as soon as I can. I tried to capture a few with him and his friends on the iPhone, but we need to get a better shot of him with his car.

Halloween was fun!

Happy Halloween (belatedly)! Joshi was blue power ranger..his choice, and my preference over a Sith lord! I just could not talk him into the cutsie Madagascar costume. "Never!" he said. Ahh well, my boy is growing up.

I had the day off, so we spent a fun afternoon downtown, running into all kinds of people we knew. We skipped the Summit 'cube' trick or treat this year, but did go to friends at Grand Oaks for evening trick or treating. Josh was the only one of his friends to brave the Haunted House. The girls talked the talk, but chickened out when it came time to go in.

At the end of the evening, I went to collect Josh and found him getting a lingerie show that his six year old girl friends were putting on for him (mommy's sexy bras were on display)! Ai yi yi, they start so young. I can't even imagine what his teenage years are going to be like!

Do I need to repeat that Joshi had FUN on Halloween?

Time for an Update!

So much to do , so little time. If this blog had feelings, I'm sure it would be feeling deeply neglected. So time for an update.

Spent a lovely evening at the urgent care center tonight. Josh had a teensy tinsy little bit of an old scrape left, when it decided to go bad. Tried heat compresses Saturday & Sunday, but no fix. Quite the little 'procedure' they had to do tonight. Should've turned the video on to get the full effect of them cutting him open, cleaning out and stuffing the hole with fabric ribbon. Took a few shots with the phone for him to enjoy later.

On a brighter side, really enjoying the Indian Summer (love em)! Corvallis is full of blood red trees right now, and complement it with the still green grass (freshly cut..smelled wonderful tonight) and the spots of yellow here and there too. Very nice.

Josh & I went to the ski swap last week. Geared him up with new skis & boots. Translucent Orange (Technica) boots and 110cm Rossignol Radicals...which also happen to be....Orange! He's been telling me for months now that he wants to join WARP (Willamette Area Racing Program), but alas..he's going to have to wait another year until he's 7. I'll try to get him to actually think about technique more this year.

Our spot is one year old! Happy anniversary!

It's now been one year since this blog was created. While use of the spot has been less than robust, I'm still hopeful that over time we will find value within these pages.
