Dolores Varner, 81, life service Saturday
FOREST GROVE - Dolores I. Varner, 81, Forest Grove, died March 20, 2008, at her home, of pancreatic cancer.
A life celebration will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at North Plains Senior Center, 31450 NW Commercial St. Private interment will be held.
Mrs. Varner was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Vancouver, Wash., a daughter of Helmer and Rigmore Hellis Isakson. She was raised and educated in several Oregon communities.
She married Melvin K. Varner Dec. 2, 1946, in DeLake. In 1960 they moved to Forest Grove.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, quilting and all kinds of sewing and needlework. She taught knitting, crocheting and cake decorating classes, loved music and was the lead singer for the "Golden Oldies Band." Based in Vernonia Senior Center, they sang at other local senior centers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, in 1995, and by three brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, D'Ann Reid; sons, Steve and Jay Varner; four brothers; a sister; and nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
